Tại cuộc trưng bày ở Hong Kong (Trung Quốc) 17/4, hãng đấu giá Sotheby's cho biết sẽ tiến hành đấu giá viên hồng ngọc (ruby) lớn nhất thế giới trong tháng 6 tới tại thành phố New York (Mỹ) và ước tính giá bán hơn 30 triệu USD. Đây sẽ là viên ruby có giá trị nhất được bán đấu giá.
Bà Uni Kim, chuyên gia kim hoàn thuộc Sotheby’s hy vọng viên ruby có tên gọi Estrela de Fura (Ngôi sao Fura), với trọng lượng 55,22 carat, sẽ được bán với giá hơn 30 triệu USD.
Viên ruby Estrela de Fura được công ty Fura khai thác ở mỏ khoáng sản Montepeuz, miền Bắc Mozambique tháng 7/2022. Bà Uni Kim cho biết đây là địa điểm mới và thường xuyên phát hiện ruby hơn, ngoài những địa điểm truyền thống tại Myanmar.
Khi được phát hiện lần đầu, viên ruby có dạng viên đá thô nặng 101 carat và được chuyển tới bộ phận bán hàng đá quý tinh xảo của Sotheby (Sotheby’s Magnificent Jewels). Ông Dev Shetty, Giám đốc điều hành công ty Fura Gems (Canada), cho biết chất lượng và kích thước của viên đá này là điều chưa từng có.
