Các nhà sản xuất ô tô đang phản đối các đề xuất về tiêu chuẩn khí thải Euro 7 mà họ cho là quá tốn kém, gấp gáp và không cần thiết.
Các quốc gia thuộc Liên minh Châu Âu và các nhà lập pháp đang đàm phán các đề xuất “Euro 7” trong năm nay về các giới hạn chặt chẽ hơn đối với khí thải ô tô.
Tuy nhiên, tiêu chuẩn khí thải Euro 7 sẽ chỉ áp dụng đối với xe du lịch, xe tải hạng nặng và xe buýt chạy bằng động cơ diesel, bao gồm cả lượng nitơ oxit (N2O) và carbon monoxide (CO), còn xe chạy xăng sẽ không bị áp dụng tiêu chuẩn này.
Đề xuất của Ủy ban sẽ mở rộng việc kiểm tra lượng khí thải khi lái xe thực tế (RDE) và bổ sung thêm việc kiểm tra lượng khí thải liên tục thông qua một hệ thống giám sát trên xe.

Các giám đốc điều hành bao gồm Giám đốc điều hành của Tập đoàn Stellantis (STLAM.MI) Carlos Tavares cho rằng các quy định này là “vô dụng” khi các nhà sản xuất ô tô đã và đang đầu tư hàng chục tỷ euro vào xe điện (EV) và bắt đầu loại bỏ dần xe sử dụng động cơ đốt trong bằng nhiên liệu hóa thạch.
Còn ông Mattias Johansson, người đứng đầu các vấn đề chính phủ của Volvo Cars nói với Reuters rằng hạn chót năm 2025 là thời điểm bất hợp lý để thực hiện thay đổi động cơ, cũng như thiếu thông tin chi tiết về quy trình thử nghiệm, mặc dù Volvo hiện tại chỉ còn bán xe xăng và xe hybrid, đồng thời cam kết sẽ chỉ bán ô tô chạy bằng điện vào năm 2030.
Ông Martin Daum, giám đốc điều hành Daimler Truck cũng cho biết các cảm biến khí thải mới sẽ cần “khoản đầu tư lớn” và Alexander Vlaskamp, Giám đốc điều hành của Traton hiện đang phân phối xe thương mại MAN ước tính tiêu chuẩn khí thải Euro 7 sẽ khiến họ phải tiêu tốn 1 tỷ Euro.
Các nhà sản xuất xe tải khác cũng phàn nàn về sự xuất hiện của Euro 7 khiến họ phải đối mặt với các giới hạn CO2 khó khăn hơn từ năm 2030.

Trong vụ bê bối Dieselgate, Volkswagen thừa nhận vào năm 2015 đã gắn phần mềm gian lận kiểm tra khí thải động cơ diesel cho khoảng 11 triệu ô tô trên toàn thế giới. Vụ việc này đã khiến nhà sản xuất ô tô Đức phải trả hơn 32 tỷ Euro cho tiền sửa chữa phương tiện, tiền phạt và chi phí pháp lý.
Stefan Bratzel, người đứng đầu nhóm chuyên gia tư vấn của trung tâm quản lý ô tô, cho biết vụ bê bối Dieselgate đã tạo ra một vấn đề về hình ảnh cho các nhà sản xuất ô tô khi “bạn không thể tin vào những gì họ nói nữa.”
