Việt Nam được đánh giá là thị trường ô tô đầy tiềm năng khi tổng dân số cả nước đang tiệm cận mức 100 triệu người. Nền kinh tế ngày càng được cải thiện, nhu cầu sở hữu phương tiện bốn bánh của người dân cũng tăng cao.
Tuy nhiên, giá xe ô tô tại Việt Nam hiện nay vẫn đang quá cao so với các nước trong khu vực ASEAN nói riêng và toàn thế giới nói chung. Điều này đã tạo nên rào cản lớn cho quá trình mua bán xe.

Để mua một mẫu xe cỡ B bình dân với mức giá từ 500 – 600 triệu đồng như Toyota Vios, Hyundai Accent, Mazda 2 hay Honda City…, khách Việt cần phải mất khoảng thời gian tích cóp lên tới 75 tháng, tương đương khoảng 6 – 7,5 năm.
Với những chiếc xe hạng C như Mazda 3, KIA K3, Honda Civic, Hyundai Elantra, tầm giá 600 – 800 triệu đồng, thời gian người Việt cần “cày cuốc” để “tậu xế cưng” là khoảng từ 8 – 10 năm.
Với những dòng ô tô thuộc các thương hiệu cao cấp hơn như Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Lexus hay Audi có giá chính hãng từ hơn 1 tỷ gần 15 tỷ đồng thì số năm mà người Việt cần lao động sẽ phải từ 15 năm, thậm chí là cả 100 năm.
Tuy nhiên, đây chỉ là những con số về mặt lý thuyết. Trên thực tế, thu nhập của người dân có thể cao hơn con số từ Cục thống kê, bởi nhiều người Việt không chỉ sống bằng lương, họ có nhiều nguồn thu nhập khác từ việc kinh doanh buôn bán.
Thêm vào đó, giá xe nêu trên cũng chỉ ở mức tương đối khi phía hãng và đại lý liên tục tung ra loạt ưu đãi giảm giá kích cầu tiêu dùng, đưa giá bán trở về mức vô cùng hấp dẫn, thậm chí nhiều xe hạng B chỉ có mức ngang xe hạng A.
Ngoài ra, khi mua ô tô, ngoài lựa chọn xe mới, khách Việt hoàn toàn có thể nghĩ tới bài toán mua xe cũ với đa dạng khoảng giá, đáp ứng tốt nhiều điều kiện kinh tế khác nhau.
